Ramdev forced to end fast, taken to hospital.

Haridwar: Baba Ramdev has been hospitalised after his health deteriorated rapidly as his fast-unto-death against corruption and black money entered the seventh day on June 10 at the Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar. The Haridwar district administration decided to shift Ramdev to the Jolly Grant Hospital in Dehradun due to better medical facilities there. He was also administered glucose by the doctors that ended his fast.

"Baba Ramdev agreed to be shifted to the hospital. Baba Ramdev has been shifted to Jolly Grant Hospital in Dehradun in an ambulance. The ambulance has ICU facilities. The CMO is accompanying him. Glucose has been administered to Baba Ramdev. We shifted Baba Ramdev to hospital only after his consent. We went by the advice of the doctors attending him," said Haridwar District Magistrate R Meenakshi Sundaram.
Doctors had earlier told Ramdev to break his fast as he had been losing weight and his blood pressure was also dropping.
Haridwar district officials including Sundaram negotiated with Ramdev's associates at the Patanjali Yogpeeth where Ramdev has been fasting to admit him to a hospital.
Doctors fear that Ramdev's health could deteriorate further if his blood pressure and pulse rate continue to slide. Reports say that the yoga guru's blood pressure has fallen to 104/70, and his pulse rate is 58 per minute.
"As Baba Ramdev's health is deteriorating, he should stop his hunger strike immediately. We have requested him to stop his strike," said Dr Yogesh Chandra Sharma, the Chief Medical Officer of Haridwar, on Friday.
Dr Sharma said, "We want to admit him to the ICU so that we can do a heart checkup and other checkups on him." If Ramdev refuses to take glucose on Friday, the doctors will forcibly give it to him, Dr Sharma added.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh could also step in and appeal to Ramdev to end the fast. Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is likely to speak to Singh after a meeting with Swami Agnivesh.
Meanwhile, spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will be going to Haridwar to meet the yoga guru. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is going to try and persuade Ramdev to end his fast.
Baba Ramdev has been continuing his fast against corruption and black money at Patanjali Peeth in Haridwar after he was externed from Delhi last week, following crackdown by the Delhi Police at his fast venue Ramlila Grounds.

Kim will likely do a deal with a major magazine for the exclusive coverage of her big day, but candid shots of her could launch a huge bidding war between the other magazines that aren't getting the 'official' shots."

Pakistan continues to support terrorism: Chidambaram

New Delhi: The first US-India Homeland Security dialogue began here on Friday during which Union Home Minister P Chidambaram told his American counterpart Janet Napolitano that Pakistan continues to support terrorism despite growing international pressure on it.

Chidambaram, while seeking the support of Barack Obama’s administration in countering terrorism said, “Pakistan continues to support terrorism. Terror in Pakistan is an instrument of its state policy and it remains the principal challenge to both India and the US.”

During the discussion the two sides deliberated on issues of mutual interest including coastal security, mega city policing, countering illicit financing and trans-national crime, cyber security, accessing and sharing of data relating to terrorism, transfer of counter-terrorism and homeland security equipment to each other.

The Indian delegation is being led by Chidambaram, while the US side is being represented by US Secretary of Homeland Security Department Janet Napolitano, who arrived in India, Wednesday, on a four-day tour.

Chidambaram and Napolitano will later hold a joint press briefing on Friday evening at Hotel Ashoka here.

As the day-long talks coincide with the ongoing trial in Chicago of November 2008 terror strike accused Tahawwur Rana, the two sides are also expected to exchange views on ‘capacity building and mutual assistance in investigations including in the Mumbai attack’.
During the trial in Chicago, Pakistani-born American terrorist David Coleman Headley has linked Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to the Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist group that planned and executed the attack which left 166 people, including six Americans, dead.

The agenda for talks is expected to include the recent killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden by elite American commandos in a hideout in Pakistan’s garrison town of Abbottabad.

According to political analysts, today’s meeting is critical in the US-India strategic dialogue and is expected to further their communication and information-sharing ties on counterterrorism and security issues.

Napolitano in a press conference before her visit said the US and India would also concentrate on cyber security.

The threat assessment in the region from various terror groups will also be on the agenda, as per reports.

Real culprit wasn't arrested, handcuffed: Krittika

New York:  Krittika Biswas, the daughter of an Indian diplomat hit out at the New York City administration for behaving in a highly prejudiced manner in arresting her in an alleged case of obscene emails sent to two teachers in her school.

Ms Biswas said the real culprit was not even arrested or handcuffed.

Krittika who was wrongly arrested and subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing is suing New York City for $1.5 million.

She said here is security camera footage proof that she was at a mall when the incident happened.
"I wasn't even at the computer when the mail was sent," said Ms Biswas.

She is the daughter of Debashish Biswas, vice consul (administration) at the Indian Consulate General in New York.

Krittika said her claims of diplomatic immunity were ignored when she was handcuffed and locked up for more than 24 hours on February 8.

The US government has, however, said that family members of the diplomat don't enjoy diplomatic immunity.

"My understanding is that as a family member of consular officer, rather, she does not enjoy immunity from jurisdiction or inviolability," State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters on Wednesday.

Toner acknowledged that diplomats' family members carry a diplomatic passport, "but again, our understanding is that these provisions, however, don't apply to their family members and that this is different for consular officers versus those in the embassy".

The spokesman insisted that the incident would not affect US ties with New Delhi saying, "The US-Indian relationship, I would counter, has never been stronger."

122 million. That's the number of people who crowned the newest American Idol this week.

Not exactly a small sample size. We could keep playing the numbers game - how many songs, how many aspirants he bested - but you get the idea.

Some will say Pia Toscano was ousted too soon, and she probably was. Ditto James Durbin. But can anyone really dispute Scotty McCreery's worthiness?

Many of this year's eliminations were controversial, but only relative to some of the contestants who outlasted them - not to Scotty specifically.

He's got an outstanding voice perfectly suited for country, and he proved it time and again. What he lacks in flair, he makes up for with talent.

Slow, smooth and steady won this race, and deservedly so.
Scotty McCreery is a fantastic singer. If I were going purely by voice, he'd have earned my vote as American Idol champion after his first audition.

But forget what the judges say: This is not purely a singing competition.

There are, and there should be, other factors at work. The legitimacy of Idol itself is at stake, especially with new competition such as The Voice and The X-Factor.

It really needs to crank out a successful winner, and Lauren Alaina stands a better chance at sustained success than Scotty does.

For whatever reason, male victors simply don't do well on the charts. Kris Allen? David Cook? Lee DeWyze? Can anyone name a top 10 single by any of them?

As evidenced by her duet with Carrie Underwood, Alaina has a long way to go. But she's tough. She overcame a sprained throat to compete in the finals.

She clearly wants this and I have no doubt she has more potential to be the next Carrie than Scotty has to be more than a one-month wonder.

Flamboyant pop star Lady Gaga ditched the music and switched to the media on Monday with a stint as a guest editor at the London headquarters of the global free newspaper network Metro.
Widely regarded as the world's biggest pop star, the 25-year-old New Yorker has also been busy promoting her second full-length studio album "Born This Way" which is available in stores from May 23.
Gaga arrived at Metro's offices wearing pink hair in a beehive style, black high heels, fishnet stockings and a black brassiere-like top.

Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, has a huge and famously devoted fanbase around the world whom she calls her "little monsters."

Jon Cryer Reacts To Ashton Kutcher Joining ‘Two And A Half Men’

Jon Cryer is finally speaking out about “Two and a Half Men” and he said he is thrilled his hit comedy will return to CBS.

“I’m jazzed about the news this morning that ‘Two and a Half Men’ is coming back! For all the rest of the cast and crew I’m sure they are equally excited,” Cryer, who plays Alan Harper on the series, said in a statement to Access Hollywood on Friday.

Cryer, who, for the most part, kept quiet following Sheen’s very public spat with CBS, the show’s parent company, and Warner Bros., the studio that produces the show, also offered praise for his departing co-star as the show carries on without him.

“I want to express my enormous gratitude to Charlie Sheen for eight great seasons,” Cryer’s statement to Access Hollywood continued. “I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve done together and I will miss him. But I’m also looking forward to this new beginning.”

On Friday, it was confirmed that Ashton Kutcher will join the hit comedy series from creator Chuck Lorre, and Cryer had nothing but praise for his new co-star.

“Ashton is an extraordinarily talented guy and his presence will be an asset to our show,” Cryer’s statement read.

“We are old friends from our male-modeling days and we’re both looking forward to being judged for our comedic artistry, as opposed to our exceptional physical beauty,” Cryer added, making a reference to Ashton’s pre-TV and movie career as a model.

Shagird Review – Unpredictably good

Have you heard of Shagird before? You might have but it probably didn't stay in your mind for long just because the current big stars are not in it. But Shagird is certainly a dark horse with thrilling story. It has lots of twist and turns, and just a blink of the eyes could cost you an important plot. It brings to light the true nature of people in power, like politicians, gangsters and police officers.

Shagird is about a police officer, who does his duties dutifully in his own unusual ways. He has good rapport with corrupt politicians and gangsters. He does anything to let his family lead a lavish life. In the meantime, he cleans up the scum in the city. However, problem crops up when an honest police officer joins his team.

Shagird is a hard-hitting film that reflects the true nature of Indians in power. It keeps you on your toes all through. 'Unpredictability' is the USP of the film. Director Tigmanshu Dhulia has proved that he is an efficient storyteller. He has handled the plots beautifully. Nana Patekar is a gem as always. He fits perfectly into the character. Other cast of the film Zakir Hussain, director Anurag Kashyap, Mohit Ahlawat, Rimmi Sen, Vishwajeet Pradhan, Khan Jahangir and Virendra Saxena too have done justice to their roles.

On the whole, Shagird is a well-made film with power-packed screenplay and wonderful performances. You should not miss this unconventional film!

Ragini MMS gets mixed reviews

The hype around Ragini MMS was huge. Its raunchy posters and the subsequent protests added more publicity to the film. But this Ekta Kapoor-produced film is unlikely to live up to the hype, as it has got mixed reviews from the critics. Some gave good reviews while others gave not so impressive ones.

Popular film critic Taran Adarsh is in all praise for the film and thinks that it’s a trend-setter. “Ragini MMS is a fine amalgamation of horror, paranormal activity and sex. In simple words it is a creepy, spine-chilling date movie that imparts a story which is daunting, imaginative and unconventional. It is an innovative form of sex and horror, which will impress the Gen X. Have a panicky weekend with Ragini MMS,” he wrote.

Gaurav Malani also thinks Ragini MMS has the elements to send chills down the spine. “Ragini MMS is amongst those contemporary horror films which don't delve much into the past of the ghost, yet trying to present some chilling moments,” he wrote, adding, “While it's not absolutely original or the scariest film ever, it's not formulaic either, like most Indian face-horrors. Ragini MMS stays true to its genre and does induce some spooky moments.”

However, Mihir Fadnavis is not impressed by the film. “Ragini MMS is a gigantic, rubbery wad of badness — it is just another derivative, unpleasant exercise in cliches being passed off as horror,” he wrote. “Ragini MMS is never terrifying. Worse, it ends with a silly twist that's much more likely to raise eyebrows than goosebumps. Budget limitations are no excuse for sloppy, nonsensical writing, for as busy as this movie is, you'd think it would have more going on,” he added.

Shubhra Gupta too thinks that the film has nothing unique to offer. “Ragini MMS’ is strange mix of Hollywood horror influences and old-style Bollywood ghost stories. The film forgets a basic axiom : what you cannot see is far more scary. `Ragini MMS’ borrows its voyeuristic thread, and a face too heavily from previous Ekta production Love Sex Aur Dhoka, and goes about showing us too much,” he wrote.

Well, Ragini MMS, directed by Pawan Kripalani and starring Raj Kumar Yadav and Kainaz Motivala, has received mixed reviews from the critics, but we will come to know its final verdict after a few days

Ashton Kutcher officially signs Two and a Half Men

American actor Ashton Kutcher, husband of actress Demi Moore, has stepped into Charlie Sheen’s shoes. Tmz.com reported that he has officially signed on to replace Charlie Sheen on the American comedy series 'Two and a Half Men'.

“Charlie's base pay on the show was $1.25 million an episode. We've learned Ashton will get more than half - more than $625,000 but less than $900,000,” TMZ.com quoted a source as saying. It is reported that Charlie was paid more than $2 million an episode.

CBS boss Les Moonves is expected to announce Ashton’s entry to 'Two and a Half Men' very soon. However, the Punk’d star will not play Charlie Harper character. Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones are also expected to join the cast.

KBC 5 promos shot in Paa's place

Actor Amitabh Bachchan shot the first promo for 'Kaun Banega Crorepati 5' on Wednesday at Kemps Corner, where previously he had shot a portion of his film Paa (2009) with Paresh Rawal and Abhishek. The dubbing for the audio-visual is already done and the promo will go on air between May 8 and 10.

The promo will open up nationwide entries for the show, the first question will be aired on May 27, at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment television. It is also reported that the question may at the same time appear on Set Max in the middle of the IPL semi-finals.

A release date for Heroine has yet to be announced, but production is due to commence in June.
