Lindsay Lohan may think she's 'in the clear,' but veteran prosecutor Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers isn't quite so sure.
In a new interview, Meyers had harsh words for the 24-year-old actress saying: 'She keeps violating the terms of her probation. For her sake, I hope she has learned from this. Only time will tell.'
The prosecutor, who is running for Los Angeles County District Attorney, has been uncharacteristically vocal about the case.
In an interview with Radar Online, Meyers said: 'I hope Ms. Lohan is taking this seriously.'
Meyers has taken issue with the decision by Judge Stephanie Sautner to reduce the felony grand theft charge that prosecutors filed against the actress to a misdemeanour, which carries significantly less jail time.
'I respectfully disagree with Judge Sautner's ruling,' Meyers said.
'Ms. Lohan was brazenly wearing the necklace three blocks away from the jewellery store several days after it was taken, and that is felony conduct, plain and simple.'
Meyers also held a news conference outside the LAX Airport Courthouse last Friday, minutes after Lindsay was hauled off to jail, and the prosecutor was visibly upset.
She told reporters she thought Lindsay, who lives in trendy Venice section of LA's Westside, has been getting off easy.
'I'm just amazed,' she said. 'There is a different standard on the Westside.'
Judge Sautner sentenced Lindsay to 120 days in jail and ordered her to perform 480 hours of community service for a probation violation related to the alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace from an upmarket jewellery store.
She was released on bail just five hours after being taken into custody.
She was told she had one week to register to perform 360 hours at the homeless shelter and 120 hours of janitorial work at the Los Angeles County morgue.
Lindsay, who is out on bail, is said to have already registered to begin serving her community service and is reportedly interested in teaching acting classes at The Los Angeles Downtown Women's Centre, where she was ordered to work 360 hours.
The centre, which helps homeless women get back on their feet, runs a theatre workshop, and is welcoming having Lohan share her acting talents.
A spokesperson for the centre told celebrity website TMZ that the staff was 'extremely interested in having Lindsay contribute her talents when she kicks off her 360 hours of community service.'
The workshop, which is called Dames Investing in Very Authentic Storytelling, or DIVAS, includes around 15 women who meet for two hours each week to learn how to express themselves through performing.
On Tuesday, Lindsay spoke out about the case on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
She talked about her sentence and told Leno she felt 'kind of numb' after the judge threw the book at her.
Then she went on to make the strange comment, 'I'm in the clear now.'
Lindsay has been a courthouse fixture since last May when she missed a hearing in her drunken driving case.
Her next appearance in connection with the theft case is set for May 11th for a pre-trial hearing, and her trial is scheduled to begin in June.
