Kate Middleton's wedding dress similar to gown worn by Grace Kelly; Actress married Prince in 1956

Royal wedding fans couldn't help but note that Kate Middleton's wedding dress echoed a gown worn by another commoner who married a prince - Grace Kelly.

Both Middleton and Kelly - the blond American actress who wed Ranier III, Prince of Monaco, in 1956 - wore dramatic gowns with similar V-shaped necklines and long white lace sleeves.

Middleton, now the Duchess of Cambridge, donned an ivory and white satin gazar with French Chantilly lace gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen when she exchanged vows with Prince William.

Kelly, who starred in the Alfred Hitchcock films "Rear Window" and "Dial M for Murder," chose Hollywood costume designer Helen Rose to create her stunning gown with a tight waist sash and a billowing skirt.

In 1983, Kelly was driving in France with her young daughter, Princess Stephanie, when she suffered a stroke. Kelly died of her injuries at age 52.

Nearly 100 million watched the actress' funeral on television.

Princess Diana, who would die in a car crash 15 years later, came to Monaco to represent the royal family at the funeral in Monaco's St. Nicholas Cathedral.
